Joanne TAYLOR Painter (RSA)              Joanne Taylor Artist, Surrealist Painter living in Knysna, Garden Route Western Cape, South Africa (by courtesy of "Chess-Theory") «I was born in Zambia (then it was Northern Rhodesia) and grew up there, only   leaving  in 1978.  I  went to boarding school in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and worked in Johannesburg from 1982-8 as a freelance illustrator. Then i moved to Knysna to get back to nature, bringing my 3 children with me .... all nature lovers! I had no formal training in art - and so it is like a continual experimental journey for me, always trying new materials and com- positions.   If i was a  musician i would play  improvised jazz!   For me, the process of making art is like a game of chess, a joyful challenge between the seen and the unseen. Once a game is over, no matter which side has been more 'successful', you just want to start another game... and the last one is just a memory to learn from. Are you French like your name?
